Global Political and Social Awareness - The Impeachment of Donald Trump
The impeachment of a sitting president is rare. In all, three different American presidents faced impeachment from the U.S. House of Representatives including the current incumbent of the nation's highest office. Reasons for it must be concrete and inconclusive. In my humble opinion, Bill Clinton was impeached for a harmless infraction. What goes on in his private life is his business. What he did didn't impede his performance. Unfortunately for Clinton, the opposition didn't see it the same way and proceeded to impeach him only to see it evaporate. Case closed.
But the case with Donald Trump is completely different. He has a history of abusing his power. The reason why Trump does this is because he believes he can do anything he wants. Call it bad parenthood from his past: no boundaries, obedience and discipline. Trump got what he always wanted and was terribly spoiled. Naturally, this form of parenting can transform his behavior and attitude irrefutably as he gets older. Now at the helm of massive power, this behavior has resulted in serious and dangerous situations for hundreds of millions of people. When Trump is interested in something, he'll do anything to get it even if it means to take swipes at law and order. Solicitation of Russian and foreign interference, right-wing gerrymandering of political sectors, constitutional violations, conspiracy theories and defaming jabs against people of color in politics, repetitive scandals, and tell-tale signs of repugnant racism are the results. These are the hallmarks of a person who hasn't grown up at all and refused to do so as of late. Of course, Trump was elected but at a terrible cost to the democratic platform. By inviting foreign, sovereign nations to manipulate elections, Trump is endangering the national security of the country and undermining sacred democratic institutions that protect voters from harm and wrongdoing.
The presidential election of 2016 was won on falsehood. Evidence has been found on Russian meddling and a big number of officials from Trump's administration felt the iron fist of the law. They received indictments, charges and jail time for breaking the law. How can Trump call it a witch hunt when so many witches have been found? Yet conspiracies remain and continue to flow through the discombobulated administration on a weekly basis. It's a scary thought to see an administration irrevocably embroiled in so much trouble. It's the one that's supposed to run the country and to represent best interests of the people. Sadly, this isn't the case.
The upcoming 2020 election is already mired in terrible issues which forced the Democrats under House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to evoke the articles of impeachment against the president. President Trump withheld defense funds from Ukraine so the Ukrainian government could investigate alleged criminal activities by Hunter Biden, the son of Joe Biden. The problem is, Mr. Biden is a powerful contender for the oval office and a popular Democrat who served as a long-term Senator of Delaware and Vice President under President Barack Obama for eight years. In this instance, Trump is trying to discredit and uncover illegalities of his opponent's family all of which have been rebuked. The only leverage Trump has to make it happen is to refuse Ukraine payment if they don't cooperate with him and his administration. This act is a clear violation of presidential powers.
Many supporters of Trump claim this is nothing but a ridiculous hoax. No evidence linking Trump to this problem or to even prove that something like this has taken place has ever been found so far. But there's a problem. Many of Trump's nominated officials in foreign policies and abroad have cooperated and offered accounts on the situation. Most interestingly is are the words from Ambassador to the EU Gordon Sondland. A proven supporter of Trump, who even donated $1 Million dollars to his campaign, has spoken out against Trump's behavior during a congressional hearing. Clearly something happened here. How could Sondland, who has supported Trump, turn against him? The answer is clear. The Ambassador knows that the president has truly committed a heinous act of abuse and trying to expose it for the world to see. He doesn't want to end up at the wrong side of the law like Gates, Cohen, Manafort, and Papadopoulos.
Another concerning contributor to the problem is Devin Nunes who once chaired the House Intelligence Committee and is still the ranking member of that body. Nunes has used his position to attack the FBI, the Mueller report and the current investigation against Trump but to no avail. It has raised serious problems by Democrats and Republicans that Nunes will do anything to discredit any noteworthy and legitimate data on problems and constitutional violations that were created by Trump and his henchmen. It's also interesting to mention what kind of Role Nunes played in the whole debacle in the Ukraine. According to Lev Parnas, an associate of Rudy Giuliani, Nunes helped arrange meetings with Ukrainian officials to procure information on Joe Biden. Many Republicans like Doug Collins, Jim Jordan and, of course, Devin Nunes believe there's a conspiracy against Trump but do absolutely nothing to stop one against Biden.
There's a good chance that the Senate Republicans won't let the impeachment pass. In the end, it's a show of force from the Democrats that they won't put up with any executive abuse from Trump.
